SpeechyTalk is designed for children ages 1–6 and is used under direct parental supervision. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable international children's privacy laws.
Who we are

What data we collect
SpeechyTalk collects only what is necessary to operate the app. Data is entered by parents or guardians, not children.
- Child profile names and emoji avatars created by parents
- Photos taken with your device's camera, or chosen by you, for flashcard and communication board images
- Audio recordings made within the app by a parent or another adult (used as the audio for flashcards, the communication board and phonics)
- App usage activity — flashcard sessions and games played — stored locally on your device and in your personal account
- Account email address if you sign in via our authentication provider
- Purchase and subscription status (no payment details — processed by Apple or Google)
- Crash reports and error logs with no personally identifiable information
- A device identifier, device name and app version for each phone or tablet signed in to your account, so we can apply your plan's device limit and let you remove a device
- A notification token and your app language, only if you allow notifications, so we can send practice reminders in your language
- Usage analytics — which features are used, for example which Explore scene was opened or whether a card was created. These events are linked to your account so we can understand how families use the app. They are collected by us, stored in our own database, and never sold, shared, or used for advertising.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect personal information directly from children
- We do not serve advertising of any kind
- We do not track users across other apps or websites
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for marketing
- We do not use facial recognition, voice identification, or any other biometric data
- We do not collect location data
How we use your data
- To display flashcards, story pages, and games personalized to your child's learning content
- To save progress and activity history for parents to review
- To process and verify premium subscriptions
- To diagnose app crashes and improve stability
- To understand which features are used most so we can improve the app
Where data is stored
Photos, audio recordings, and flashcard content are stored on your device and in your private account database. Each user's data is isolated — we cannot access other users' content. Audio and image files are stored in secure cloud storage with access restricted to your account only.
“Your turn!” practice — stays on the device
“Your turn!” is optional and is off until a parent turns it on for a child. When it is on, the app uses the microphone to listen while the child says a word back, and compares the attempt with the parent's recording to show a simple practice indicator. This happens entirely on the device. The child's attempts and the results are not uploaded, are not stored on our servers, are not linked to your account, and are never used to train any system. They are not a speech assessment. Deleting the app removes them.
Our website (speechytalk.com)
Our website counts page views with our own simple, cookieless counter hosted on our own server. For each page view it records only the page visited, the referring website, any campaign tag in the link, your browser's language setting, your device's time zone (which tells us the approximate country), and whether the device is a phone, tablet, or computer. It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address or any identifier, and cannot recognize you across visits. It respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control settings. This counter is on the website only — it is not part of the SpeechyTalk app.
Third-party services
SpeechyTalk uses the following third-party services, each bound by their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — database and file storage, including our own first-party usage analytics
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- Sentry — crash reporting
- Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions
COPPA compliance
SpeechyTalk is directed to children under 13 and is used under parental supervision. In accordance with COPPA:
- All account creation and data entry is performed by parents or guardians, not children
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children
- Parents may delete the account and all its data at any time in the app or by emailing us
- Session replay and behavioral tracking features are disabled
- No behaviorally targeted advertising is shown
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained as long as you have an active account. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time in the app (Parental Controls → Delete account), on our delete account page, or by emailing algie.mabone@speechytalk.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at algie.mabone@speechytalk.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
